Rhythm, Dance, Music & You!
Our company, Tapestry Dance Company offers annual FREE in-school lecture-demonstrations and workshops each Spring called "Rhythm, Dance, Music & You!" The lecture-demonstrations, hosted since 1992, are for all ages K-8 and usually last 45 minutes although we are flexible and can adapt the lecture-demo to fit into your schedule. We can do 2 back-to-back shows if your student population is large.
The company is a multi-form dance company that specializes in tap dance. The demonstrations are interactive so the students will participate in rhythm exercises and sometimes we even get your "tappers" up on stage with the professionals! Our best times are mornings, and we have availability between mid April - May 2015. The City of Austin subsidizes these visits, so there is no cost to your school.
We can also arrange to do rhythm workshops with smaller groups. Usually we work with 1 or 2 classes at a time. Some schools choose specific classes for the workshops and some schools have us there all day to give every student a chance to participate (up to six 20-30 minute workshops in a day for us). Our artists can perform in your cafeterium or on a stage and we only need a way to amplify our music as well as a microphone. Our tap shoes do "mark up the floor" sometimes - just a small alert, but this is only due to the wax buildup on many surfaces and has never been a problem in the past.

EVOLUTION OF A DANCER
Tapestry dancer and TDC Academy "Rhythm Boys" tap teacher Tony Merriwether began his dance training through a scholarship connected to our "Rhythm, Dance, Music & You! Outreach Program. As a young student at Mathews Elementary, Tony was in the audience for many of these in-school education programs and soon became a student at Tapestry Dance Company Academy. Taking all disciplines of dance and becoming a member of TDC's pre-apprentice program Visions In Rhythm, Tony eventually settled into his love of tap dance. One step led to another and he soon became a member of the professional company.
We welcome Tony back as a TDC Company member once again and look forward to seeing his work with our "Rhythm Boys" Dance Program sharing the power of dance through rhythm.
